New review of Night Corridor by Joan Hall Hovey

"Even scarier than being consigned unjustly to a mental hospital for nine years is the prospect of being put out of it, back into a world with which you are no longer engaged. Caroline Hill had a baby when she was 17, a daughter who was torn from her arms at birth by people who claimed to know what was best for her. Caroline fell into a depression so deep that a mental hospital seemed the only place for her. While she was there her parents died in an accident, and as there was no other family, Caroline stayed on in care for year after year.

Eventually the darkness lifts from Caroline's mind enough for her medical supervisors to feel she can be returned to the wider world. Also, the state is trying to cut costs, so the more people it can move out of the wards, the better. (You can see that in real life on the streets of any major city.)

For someone whose mental health has been so hard won back after years of illness, being kidnapped by a madman is about the worst thing that could happen. Fortunately, Caroline's long incarceration has given her much insight into what makes mad people tick, and this serves her well during a harrowing road trip-but what will happen at the end of the trip?

This book makes for compelling reading, perhaps even more so if you know anything about how state mental institutions operate now and in the past. You might want to sleep with the light on for a few nights." ~ Karen Treanor, New Mystery Reader

Witchcraft and Anchovies by Jamieson Wolf

I prefer not to think of that when I'm taking a call on the telephone. The source of my other income is a little shameful to me, though I must do it to make ends meet. I feel, sometimes, as if my white world has been marred by a spot of black.

The neighbourhood calls me a Witch.
I prefer to think of myself as a healer.
I try to heal others mostly because I can't heal myself.

Great new review for The Abduction of Mary Rose by Joan Hall Hovey

"I have been a fan of Joan Hall Hovey’s writing since I read CHILL WATERS last year. After that, I gobbled each and every release with the same excitement I do for new books by bestselling authors like Dean Koontz. And with THE ABDUCTION OF MARY ROSE, Ms. Hovey follows in the same tradition of grabbing her readers by the throat and never letting go until the final pages bring the story to its ultimate resolution.

It’s not so much the de facto smooth writing skills, or the vivid scene-setting that makes you feel as if you are right there with the protagonist, or the wonderful, natural-sounding dialog, or the edge-of-your-seat suspense, or the wild chase scenes that keep you up into the wee hours of morning with your heart pounding...No, I now find all of these elements to be expected in this author’s books. What shines so brightly above and beyond these great traits, however, is Ms. Hovey’s characters. Rich with backstory, as real as the person sitting next to you on the couch or in your office, these people leap off the page and invade your mind, lingering for weeks or months afterwards.

When you buy this book–and I highly recommend you do–you need to set aside time to read. Start it on a Friday night or Saturday morning, or you’ll be calling your boss to take a vacation day. Yes, it’s that good." ~ Aaron Paul Lazar

Carousel by Barbara Baldwin

Jaci Eastman is inadvertently drawn through time to 1874 when she photographs a restored carousel. She lands at Wildwood horse farm and must rely on the good graces of its owner, Nicholas Westbrooke.

Nicholas is a man who likes routine, but Jaci unwittingly shatters his illusions about women, passion and love. She tells stories of flying machines and teaches science to his niece. She's outrageous in her dress, manners and language, and yet he finds her irresistible.

Jaci has always believed only reality can be photographed. But then she falls in love with Nicholas. When he begins carving the exact horse that transported her through time, will she use it to return to the present, or stay and create a new reality?

"Wow. Double Wow! Carousel is an outstanding book…I loved that when the passion got intense between the two, Nicholas never forgot his honor as a gentleman with Jaci." ~ Cheryl, 5 Angels and Recommended Read by Fallen Angel Reviews

"Barbara Baldwin just put another keeper on my bookshelf. Jaci is independent and just what the strong, sexy, and oh so enticing Nicholas needs. I loved this book! Sexy and the romance is steeped deep so that you fall in love with her characters and can't help but cheer for them." ~Simply Romance Reviews

5 Stars for Night Corridor by Joan Hall Hovey

"'Night Corridor' is one of those psychological page turning suspense novels that grab you from the first page and will not let go till you reach the last page. Written in the style of Mary Higgins Clark or Agatha Christie, the book is easy to read and the author seems to draw you right into the plot with the characters. As I read it I felt like I was right there with Caroline feeling what she felt. I could not stop reading as I had to find out who the killer was through the many twists the plot took.

If you are one that likes a good written mystery then I highly recommend 'Night Corridor'. I guarantee once you pick up this book you will not want to lay it down and just might catch yourself looking behind you. This is the first that I have read of this author's books but I will be looking for more of hers in the future if they are written anything like 'Night Corridor'." ~ Lynn F., Readers Favorite Reviews

4.5 Stars for A Chill at Twilight by Calista Fox

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Best Friend Scorned…

With her country music career in a downward spiral, Rachel Holt returns to her hometown of Onyx, Texas. There, a sexy cowboy named Luc Winston and a ghost as ominous as the town’s namesake awaits her. Not only is the ghost of Rachel’s best friend, who died seven years ago, haunting the Whispering Willow Inn where Rachel is staying, she’s terrorizing Rachel.

Believing Peyton’s ghost feels slighted by her long absence and her sizzling, rekindled romance with too-hot-to-handle Luc, Rachel tries to make amends with the scorned spirit. Only to discover a web of secrets and lies that leave her questioning whether Peyton’s death was an accident, as reported…or murder. But can she survive the ghost’s fury long enough to get to the truth?

"As always, Fox's explosive love scenes take center stage in A Chill at Twilight...I like her characters, her imagination and interesting background plots too." ~ Alberta, Manic Readers

Great new review for Sandcastles of Love by Sydell Voeller

When Logan Becker's family embarks on a summer "house swapping" vacation in a beach town in Oregon, Logan is overjoyed.  Similarly, Tricia Merrit, the daughter of the other family, is thrilled to be in the farm belt of Minnesota.

Logan falls in love with the beach boy surfer of her dreams, but soon she discovers he's Tricia's boyfriend.  Logan's dreams are shattered.  Meanwhile, there's another boy who is attracted to Logan—the totally uncool Grant Duncan who is busy trying to launch a campaign to clean the local beaches.  Can Logan come to realize that true love often reveals itself in unexpected ways?

"A fun summer romance! Author Sydell Voeller captures the emotions of actual teens in this light-hearted summer romance set on the coast of Oregon. Feelings are beautifully described in this fun read." ~ LuvBooks, Amazon Reader

5 Stars for Secrets and Lies by Jamie Hill

Natalie Jameson has a handsome husband, three wonderful children, and one very big secret. She's managed to keep it under wraps for over twenty years, but recent events lead her to decide she has no choice but to reveal the terrible truth.

Alex Jameson has had one goal in life since the minute he met Natalie on their college campus. Do whatever it takes to make this woman happy. When circumstances threaten to unravel the web of secrets and lies they've built around themselves, will their love be strong enough to survive?

"Natalie and Alex are the couple everyone strives to be. They adore each other and their children. Everything is perfect in their lives until one day when everything is changed. It makes me wonder how I would have reacted.  Seldom does a short book deserve the highest rating from me, but Secrets and Lies moved me more than I expected. Since it is a short read, the excitement is in finding out what actually happened twenty years ago. I must say that this was a very touching story that at times made me want to cry. Yes, this is a very heavy topic but Ms. Hill has done an outstanding job of weaving her way through the story in a manner that does not bring the reader down. The characters throughout the story were so realistic and the topic is something that I am sure many people have faced in real life. Ms. Hill nailed the relationship between a husband and a wife. Yes, they fight but how they deal with their arguments is so like a normal couple that I couldn't help but to draw from my past experiences. Relatable, memorable characters along with an amazing plot line make Secrets and Lies a story that you simply cannot miss." ~ Val, You Gotta Read Reviews, 5 Stars
